For those who don’t like their spaces to feel too chilly, warm woods with subtle grains are a great material to bring in a natural touch while preserving the tranquil atmosphere.
As mentioned, modern bathrooms tend to use a minimalist approach, without ornate details like elaborate mirror frames. A simple frameless mirror looks perfectly elegant in a modern space, especially when it runs wall to wall or, as I often specify in my design projects, inset into the surrounding tile to create a flush surface.
Modern interior design came about as a reaction to the ornate and almost baroque styles that came before it. As such, the main focus of this school of design is to act as the antithesis of of those other looks. Rather than having lots of details and embellishments, modern furniture relies on clean lines and stark contrasts.
The challenge is achieving that middle ground. How do you infuse warmth into the space while still benefiting from stylistic contrasts, and how do you keep it from looking too clinical?
